Apple Pay – set-up, limits, lost device, troubleshooting

Apple Pay is a fast, secure way to pay with your Zopa cards in-store, in apps and online. It's free to use and doesn't store or share your card details – instead, it uses a unique Device Account Number and a one-time passcode for every transaction. You'll get a notification for every payment, whether successful or declined, and can view your Apple Pay transactions any time in the Wallet app.

Setting up Apple Pay

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone

  2. Tap the + button

  3. Follow the steps to add your Zopa card

You can add your card to up to 9 devices, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Vision Pro and Mac.

Using your card on public transport

Set your Zopa card as your Express Travel Card to tap in on public transport (like TfL) without unlocking your device:

  • On iPhone: Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Express Travel Card, then select your Zopa card

  • On Apple Watch: Watch app > Wallet & Apple Pay > Express Travel Card

Making Zopa your default card

Open the Wallet app and drag your Zopa card – you'll see a message confirming it's now your default card on Apple Pay.

Spending limits

Unlike contactless payments, there's no £100 spending cap on Apple Pay. The transaction limits on your Zopa bank account – or credit limit, if it's your Zopa credit card – also apply to Apple Pay.

How many cards can I add to a device?

On iOS 17 or later, there's no limit. On older versions, limits may vary – check under Settings > General > About.

If your device is lost or stolen

Log in to iCloud and mark your device as lost – this stops Apple Pay working on that device. If you recover it, you can reactivate Apple Pay via iCloud. Apple Pay also uses Face ID or Touch ID, so only you can make payments.

Troubleshooting

  • "Card Not Added – Contact your issuer": this usually means your card is no longer active and can't be added to Apple Wallet.

  • Accidentally deleted your card? Open the Wallet app and tap + to re-add it.
