Common questions about Direct Debits
scheduleUpdated about 2 months ago
What is a Direct Debit?
A Direct Debit is a way of repaying your credit card balance automatically each month. Setting one up can be a good way to avoid missing payments.
With Direct Debits, you can choose from three monthly payment amounts:
The minimum amount due
Your full statement balance
A custom amount of your choosing
Why can’t I set up a Direct Debit from my bank account?
If you’re getting an error when trying to set up a Direct Debit, it’s probably because we haven’t been able to automatically verify that your bank account belongs to you.
We currently can’t support Direct Debits from Chase, Starling or Revolut accounts, unless they’ve already been verified for another Zopa product.
You can always try again with another account or set up an automatic payment.
What happens if my Direct Debit fails?
If your Direct Debit fails, you’ll need to make your minimum payment manually before your due date. If not, you could be charged a £12 missed payment fee.
What happens if my Direct Debit falls on a weekend or bank holiday?
If this is the case, your Direct Debit will be taken on the next working day. Don’t worry, we schedule your due date for around a week after the date your payment’s taken. So, even if your Direct Debit falls on a bank holiday or weekend, we’ll still take the payment in time.
How long does it take for a Direct Debit repayment to be applied to my Zopa credit card?
It takes one working day for us to receive the money and apply it to your account. Don’t worry, to ensure your payment arrives in time, we schedule your due date for around a week after the date your payment’s taken. That buffer gives more than enough time for us to apply it to your account.
Will my Direct Debit amount change if I make extra payments during the month?
Any extra payments you make before receiving the heads-up email about your upcoming payment will be factored into that month’s Direct Debit amount. If you make any extra payments after that email, your Direct Debit payment will still be taken for the scheduled amount.
